Concord School Board election

Thanks for the Monitor coverage of the Merrimack Valey School District transformation of a 2023-24 $2 million dollar deficit into a 2006 surplus. In that period, that shortfall vanished through careful budget review and prudent financial management. The MV School Board and administration sharpened their pencils going over their finances with a fine-toothed comb. Notably, part of that surplus was returned to taxpayers as relief with lower school taxes. It’s refreshing to see a school board manage its financial situation within its resources without whining and blaming the State for causing its financial predicament.

Perhaps, the MV School District can give lessons to the Concord School District on budget control and management. This November, Concord can elect three new school board members. For years I’ve heard, ” If you don’t like what the school board is doing, then vote us out.” Two incumbent Concord Board members, Brenda Hastings and Liz Boucher, are running for re-election to a three year term. Based upon their past voting records, approving a 12% increase in school taxes, and a $155 million middle school, can Concord taxpayers afford to re-elect them?

Isn’t it overdue for Concord voters to elect new school board members who listen, understand and represent Concord’s concerns and values ?Stay informed about School Board candidates. Make your voice and vote count in November.
