To the voters of Pembroke
If you were as unhappy as I was to see our current representatives ignore our petition to vote against expanding educational vouchers — along with their votes to lower taxes on corporations and the wealthiest among us, which has resulted in a nearly 20% increase in our property taxes in just two years — then I urge you to support two newcomers who are anxious to listen to their neighbors instead of the dictates of those (Liberty Alliance, Free Staters and Americans for Prosperity) who only want their own agenda followed.
Mariana Beer is willing to juggle her time to serve as a legislator while being an average working person. In addition to her day job, she has already served us on the budget committee and volunteering at the library. She will bring that perspective to solving the challenges many of us face.
Ken Nivison is an educator who serves on our School Board and will work hard to achieve fair funding for our public schools. He knows full well that the quotes about reckless school spending are just not true here.
I have watched these candidates working hard to knock on doors all over town to have conversations with many of you and to understand the hardships we are enduring with all the outrageous cost increases. As your former representative of over 14 years, I support them, I trust them and you can too. Please vote for them for our two seats in the legislature on Nov. 3.
