Negative, negative, negative

I know the political handlers all say “negative attack ads” win votes, but not from me they don’t. The latest one to aggravate me is “Silver Spoon Shaheen.” Are you kidding me? I have known the Shaheen family for 40 years and I can assure you there are no silver spoons given out in that family.

I worked on Jeanne Shaheen’s campaign, stuffing envelopes and manning phone banks, which I realize is dating myself. I was there so often Jeanne asked me to be the teacher in an ad she planned to air, which I agreed to. I was glad to help out in any way I could. Being a teacher in real life, I had no money to contribute, but I could act like a teacher. Thank goodness stuffing envelopes and doing phone calls has passed out of fashion. However, getting our message across by introducing our candidate and what she had done in the past, will never go out of style. The way I see it, doing a negative attack ad should at least be based on truth. Instead, we get bombarded with made-up stories and unflattering photographs.

It takes more effort to get out and hear what each of the candidates have to say, to read about their voting record or what they have done with their life. Ask Stefany a question in person and listen to what she has to say and how she says it. Then go out and attend a gathering for her opponent. Ask a question and listen to how they answer. That’s how you see who is fit to represent you. Skip the TV for the next couple of weeks. You’ve heard all they have to say that way.
