With the city of Concord ending its bagged leaf collection program due to budget cuts, Brochu Nursery and Landscaping is offering an alternative.
The big nursery in Concord has long been part of the city’s system to collect fallen leaves off people’s property and keep them out of landfills. For years, the city has brought leaves collected by its teams to Brochu’s facility, where they are turned into compost.
“It’s been a great partnership that has helped the city dispose of leaves in an environmentally friendly way while providing our business with an important ingredient for our compost,” said William Brochu in an email to the Monitor.
Brochu is offering free drop-off of bagged leaves for city residents at their 67 West Portsmouth St. facility on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. They’ll also pick up leaves from homes at the cost of $5 a bag, with a five-bag minimum.
“We really do want these leaves!” Brochu added. “They’re an important part of making our all-natural compost, and this allows us to continue recycling a valuable local resource rather than letting it go to waste.”
The city will continue its curbside bulk-leaf collection.
