A wildfire that has covered more than 370 acres is burning in steep, remote terrain near the Maine border in Coos County. As of Tuesday there were no significant threats to life or property.

The fire is approximately seven miles southeast of Gorham in the Wild River drainage area. On Tuesday afternoon it was reported to be about 11% contained.

“The Wild River Fire is actively burning in timber, snags, and leaf litter. Higher humidity is expected today, which will help to limit fire spread. Drought persists throughout the area. Over fifty personnel are currently assigned to the Wild River Fire,” according to a release from the U.S. Forest Service.

Aerial resources, including a helicopter and drone, will support reconnaissance and suppression activities. Smoke may be visible in the surrounding area.

The Wild River Fire was first reported on the afternoon of Sunday Nov. 1, and the cause is under investigation. New Hampshire has seen more than two weeks of very dry and warm weather, and no significant precipitation is expected until the weekend.
