Fox watching the hen house
You really can’t make this stuff up!
Many of the people working on AI have cautioned that AI will be capable of developing code faster than programmers can check it. It has already escaped its “sandbox” and hacked into police departments, IRS and other AI programs. So far, nothing has happened affecting the public, but companies have waited weeks before revealing these issues, so who knows?
The president got AI developers to sign an agreement to regulate themselves with no penalties and no government oversite. What could possibly go wrong? Trying to be the first with products that are faster, easier to use, fewer errors and able to “learn” as they go. Which company is going to stop development that might put them slightly behind their competitor? Congress has not taken up legislation to regulate AI, hopefully that will change in the next Congress.
What about hackers demanding ransom? They’ve hacked into supermarket freezers to spoil food and into crypto stealing $6.3 billion from one. AI could make it easier.
We can hope AI will be used to improve life for everyone, but history does not bear that out. Where money and power are involved, someone will always take advantage.
We need to be concerned with the mega data centers. Installing jet engine turbines to produce power, diverting water, ignoring environmental regulations and permitting. Gutted federal agencies don’t have the manpower to follow up and stop the abuse.
By the way, release the Epstein files!
