An 18-year-old Northfield resident died following a motorcycle crash in Belmont on Friday.
Guiseppe Bonanno lost control of his motorcycle at approximately 1 p.m. Friday while rounding a tight corner in the 300 block of South Road and was struck by an oncoming Nissan Pathfinder, according to Belmont Police Captain Steve Akerstrom. Bonanno died at Concord Hospital later that day, he noted.
The Pathfinder was driven by a 38-year-old woman from Caterbury, Akerstrom said. The crash is being investigated by the Belknap County regional investigation team and the Pathfinder driver has not been charged.
Bonanno, who graduated from CSI Charter School in Penacook this spring, was remembered as “funny and full of life” in an obituary. An “adventurous daredevil”, according to the obituary, Bonanno loved racing motorcycles and riding his BMX bicycle. He had recently started work as an asset protection investigator at Walmart and aspired to one day become a New Hampshire Fish and Game Officer.
“Giuseppe was the son every parent wished to have and although he was taken from us too soon, the legacy he leaves will sustain us until we meet again,” Bonanno’s family wrote in the obituary.
The number of motorcycle fatalities in New Hampshire has been rising in recent years. Forty-one deaths were reported last year and at least seven have been reported so far this year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Commission.
Bonanno’s death was one of two traffic-related fatalities that occurred in the Concord area on Friday. An eight-year-old was killed in a separate crash on Route 106 in Loudon on Friday night.
A celebration of Bonanno’s life is scheduled for Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home in Concord.
