A motorcyclist was flown by helicopter Sunday morning to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a serious crash in Laconia.

The rider was thrown from his bike when he failed to negotiate a curve on Rollercoaster Road, which was the second serious motorcycle crash on the road in a week. The man, whom police did not identify, was not wearing a helmet at the time, police said.

The motorcyclist suffered a serious head injury and was initially taken by ambulance to Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia. He was later flown to Dartmouth in Lebanon.

Police responded to the crash scene Sunday at about 1 a.m.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation but police said they do not believe speed or alcohol were factors.

Sunday’s crash was reported as Laconia’s 96th annual Motorcycle Week drew to an end. Police responded to several crashes throughout the week, including one on June 9 on Rollercoaster Road in which a 53-year-old rider suffered a serious head injury and was airlifted to Dartmouth. The motorcyclist was not wearing his helmet at the time of the crash, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about Sunday’s crash to contact Officer Erik Benoit at the Laconia Police Department at 524-5252.
