Bow police Chief Erin Commerford is leaving the department for a job in the private sector, the town announced Thursday.
Commerford has been with the department since 2002 and was appointed chief in 2008. She met with Town Manager David Stack on Tuesday morning to tell him she would be leaving at the end of September.
Information released by the town did not reveal where Commerford is heading next. Reached by phone Thursday, Stack said Commerford did not share what her next job will be, but did say it will be in the private sector and is not related to police work.
Stack said Commerford has been a pleasure to work with. The two meet at least once a month, as Stack does with all department heads.
Commerford could not be reached for comment Thursday, but was quoted in a press release from the town.
“I have enjoyed every day with the Bow department and am grateful for the support of the community for our police officers,” Commerford said in the press release. “It was a difficult decision for me to leave the department, but I am confident I am leaving at a time when the department is fully staffed with first-rate men and women.”
Stack said the town’s search for a new chief is under way.
