The nonprofit organization Summer Music Associates will be continuing their 46th season in the Lake Sunapee Region this week.
The Rastrelli Cello Quartet joined by guest violinist Lindsay Deutsch will perform Thursday.
The group of four Russian cellists – Kira Kraftzoff, Kirill Timofeev, Misha Degtjareff and Sergio Drabkin – are known for performances featuring non-traditional programs. In this evening’s show, they plan to play arrangements ranging from the Russian masters to Beatles hits.
The program is slated to include David Popper’s “Tarantella,” “Pytor Tchaikovsky’s “Andante Cantabile from String Quartet No. 1,” three excerpts from Edvard Grieg’s “Peer Gynt,” Johannes Brahms’s “Six Hungarian Dances,” Mikhail Glinka’s “Karmarinskaya,” and more than 10 selections from the Beatles songbook, some in medleys, such as “Yesterday” and “Till There Was You.”
Deutsch is an American solo violinist. With her “Project: CLASSIFIED,” she aims to perform for younger audiences who do not have much knowledge of classical music by playing in places like bars, clubs and outdoor venues. Like the Rastrelli Cello Quartet, she blends the classical repertoire with genres like pop, jazz, rock and folk.
The show will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of New London.
The last three concerts of the Summer Music Associations schedule include:
■Chris Brubeck’s Triple Play on July 27 at 7 p.m. at the Sawyer Theater on the grounds of Colby-Sawyer College in New London. The show will be a rollicking mix of blues and jazz by the three musicians of the group: Peter Madcat Ruth (harmonica, guitar, jaw harp, percussion and vocals), Joel Brown, (folk and classical acoustic guitar and vocals) and Chris Brubeck (electric bass, bass trombone, piano and vocals).
■William Ogmundson of New London on Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. with a premiere of “American Beauty” by Joseph Lamb. He will also perform a range of melodies from Shaker music to boogie-woogie. This concert will be held at the First Baptist Church in New London.
■Beacon Brass Quintet on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of New London. The group will perform arrangements dating back to William Byrd in the Renaissance to Leonard Bernstein of the 20th century.
