The Hopkinton Fair has returned this week with an added day to its 2021 schedule after canceling last year like so many other events. Even this spring, there was questions as to whether the fall fair would return.
The fair opened Thursday evening with “Townie Night,” where residents of Hopkinton could attend for free. It continues Friday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Monday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The usual exhibits are back with a giant pumpkin display, grange and 4-H competition, vendors, midway, livestock shows, pulling competitions, music, petting zoo, arts and crafts display, and of course, fair food.
Stage entertainers include Jason Tardy with comedy and juggling; Peter Mamos, a hypnotist; folk and bluegrass musicians Dan Morgan and Lynda Nelson; and country musician Nicole Knox Murphy.
Pirates of the Colombian Caribbean will perform daily with high wire and Wheel of Destiny acts. Axe Women Loggers of Maine, Dock Dogs, and Ben Rinsney, wood sculptor will also have demonstrations.
Single-day passes are $14 for teens and adults, $8 for children ages 3-12, $12 for seniors 60 and older. A “fair fans” pass covering all days is $39 for everyone. Children younger than 3 and military members with ID are free. Additional passes are available for the Demolition Derby, Monster Truck Tour, Northeast Six Shooters, and midway rides. Most passes are offered at a discount online compared to those purchased at the gate.
The fair does not offer refunds and may close early for extreme weather.
The fair’s website and Facebook page do not list any pandemic precaution requirements, such as masking. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still advise the wearing of masks in crowds and indoor areas, particularly for those who are unvaccinated against the coronavirus.
