A Concord man is accused of driving impaired in a three-vehicle crash that left one man trapped inside his vehicle in Franklin.

Robert Blake, 45, faces felony charges of driving while intoxicated and driving after suspension in a crash that caused serious bodily injury. He also faces a yellow line violation.

Franklin police responded to South Main Street last Thursday about 5:42 p.m. for a report of a head-on motor vehicle crash with entrapment. Due to the seriousness of the crash, Franklin police called the New Hampshire State Police Technical Accident Reconstruction Unit to assist with the investigation.

According to police, Blake was traveling south on South Main Street when he crossed the center line and sideswiped a BMW, which spun out of control and into a field before stopping. In the meantime, Blakeโ€™s vehicle continued south in the northbound lane where it struck a pickup truck head-on, police said.

Franklin firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver of the pickup truck, who was transported to Concord Hospitalโ€™s emergency room, police said. Blake was also taken by ambulance to Concord Hospital for treatment of his injuries, while the driver of the BMW was evaluated at Franklin Regional Hospital after suffering minor injuries.

There were no passengers in any of the vehicles.

Police said they received several 911 calls about the crash, which remains under investigation. State policeโ€™s accident reconstruction team will report back to Franklin police about how fast the vehicles were traveling at the time of the crash, as well as if any of the vehicles suffered mechanical failures that contributed to the accident.
