A Massachusetts man was detained over the weekend on multiple charges after he attempted to evade police who spotted him trying to urinate on the shoulder of Interstate 93 in Canterbury.
Two New Hampshire State Police troopers patrolling the highway noticed Vincent McDermottroe, 49, of Woburn, Mass., on Saturday at about 8:20 p.m. When McDermottroe saw the troopers, he attempted to get back into his vehicle and drive away, but ultimately remained on scene, police said.
Through their conversation with McDermottroe, the troopers determined that he was intoxicated and placed him under arrest. At that time, they allege that McDermottroe provided a false name and refused to identify himself.
McDermottroe faces charges of driving under the influence, subsequent offense; operating after suspension; disobeying an officer by providing a false name; and an open container violation.
He was held for lack of $500 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning in Concordโs district court.
