City officials recently decided to discontinue a small portion of Old Stickney Avenue that runs parallel to the Exit 14 offramp of the southbound section of Interstate 93.
Development company Brady Sullivan requested the city abandon the section of road to aid in the redevelopment of former state Department of Transportation buildings at 11 Stickney Avenue. The city sat on the request for a year, pending the I-93 widening project.
“The council had received a request from Brady Sullivan to discontinue the street and they [councilors] wanted to make sure they had a good sense of what the I-93 project would entail to make sure they were not discontinuing a street that would impact the project,” said Matt Walsh, interim deputy city manager of development. “They had the confidence to move forward with discontinuing it.”
Brady-Sullivan purchased the property from the state in 2021 and later submitted plans to redevelop the site to include up to 80 dwelling units,” according to a project description from the city’s community development department.
Additionally, councilors voted to remove 159 metered spaces in the city and replace them with smart meters which will be installed over the next few weeks, Walsh said.
