As the second-degree murder case against a Penacook man moves forward, the court documents detailing the allegations against him in Grafton County remain sealed from public view.
A Plymouth district court judge found probable cause Thursday in the case against 30-year-old Thomas Corliss. His case will next go before a grand jury in Grafton County Superior Court for possible indictment.
Corliss is accused of beating Todd Downing, 60, of Wentworth multiple times in the early-morning hours of Nov. 23, according to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office. Prosecutors say the assault took place at Downing’s home at 234 Atwell Road, where he was found injured that same day. He later died at a hospital.
Corliss has been held without bail since his arrest in December on the murder charge.
A complaint filed by New Hampshire State Police’s Major Crime Unit in December is the only publicly available document in his case. However, it does not provide any further details about the allegations against Corliss and what led to the November incident.
A judge sealed the arrest warrant and affidavit in December. That seal was lifted Jan. 4 to allow only Corliss’ defense team access to the documents as they prepare for a possible trial.
