Eleven of the 28 independent Christian schools in New Hampshire have either newly opened or grown by at least 50% in the four years since the state launched its school voucher program, a Concord Monitor analysis of state enrollment data found.
The analysis – conducted as part of an investigative series about the Education Freedom Account program – revealed that enrollment in Christian schools has increased 30% since 2021, from 2,242 to 2,911 students. Enrollment in all other private schools has increased 5% during the same period.
School leaders attributed the growth to a number of factors, including financial support from the EFA program and growing distrust in public schools. Independent Christian and parochial schools combined to receive nearly 90% of all voucher dollars in the 2022-23, the most recent year for which data is available, a previous analysis found.
