Concord Hospital is taking disciplinary action against those responsible for installing a camera in the women’s locker room earlier this month, an incident that raised serious privacy concerns among staff.

After completing an internal investigation into the inappropriate camera placement, the hospital said on Friday that the individuals involved have been identified and are “facing appropriate and swift disciplinary action, up to and including termination.”

On Aug. 9, a camera was placed in the women’s locker room between the intensive care unit and the operating room at the hospital. The camera was installed as part of a theft investigation and was removed a week and a half later, on Aug. 20.

The next day, on Aug. 21, the Concord Police Department received a complaint about the camera.

Veronica Rosa, the hospital’s Chief Advancement Officer, said the camera was focused on a single locker and did not record audio, and that access to its footage was limited.

The hospital handed over the camera and its recording to the Concord Police Department, which continues to investigate the matter.

“CHHS does not condone the use of cameras in private spaces such as this,” Rosa said. “We are undertaking a comprehensive review of policies and procedures, auditing all surveillance equipment and providing mandatory leadership training to ensure this does not happen again.”
