The Concord Monitor is extremely excited to announce the launch of our High School Student Advisory Board. The board, modeled after our long-running Reader Advisory Board, will convene a diverse group of sophomores, juniors, and seniors from our coverage area for monthly conversations and presentations about local journalism and how it connects to their lives.

The purpose of the board is twofold. First, we want to introduce the Concord Monitor to a new generation that is increasingly getting their news outside of traditional media. Second, we want to better understand what matters to young people in our community so that we can better tailor our coverage accordingly.

The board will meet on the third Tuesday of each month from October to May over pizza at our office in Concord from 6-7:30 p.m. Over eight meetings, participants will hear from Monitor reporters and editors about how they do their jobs, get the opportunity to write published pieces about issues that matter to them for our Opinion section, tour our printing press in Penacook and hear from Monitor alumni at publications like the Boston Globe and the New York Times.

Participants will also get to meet a diverse group of fellow students from schools across the region and will help us shape the future of the Student Advisory Board during its inaugural year.

The board will meet on the following dates: Oct. 21, Nov. 18, Dec. 16, Jan. 20, Feb. 17, March 17, April 21, and May 19.

Anyone interested can complete a short application below. You do not need to live in Concord to apply. The deadline is September 28, 2025.

The board will be run by Community Editor Rachel Wachman and Education Reporter Jeremy Margolis. If you have any questions, you can contact them at rwachman@cmonitor.com and jmargolis@cmonitor.com.
