Don’t Let ACA Tax Credits Expire
As Congress again debates whether to extend the enhanced premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act, I hope lawmakers remember what’s at stake for families like mine.
Thanks to these tax credits, my family saves several hundred dollars each month on our health insurance premiums. That savings allows us to afford a more comprehensive plan — one that even covers vision care — while we also help support two boys in college.
We are not alone. According to the KFF, the vast majority — about 22 million out of 24 million people — who enrolled in ACA marketplace plans in 2025 received a premium tax credit. These credits make quality coverage attainable for working families and small business owners, people who would otherwise be priced out of the market.
Letting these tax credits expire would be a devastating step backward as we face recession. Extending them is not just good policy — it’s a lifeline for millions of Americans trying to balance health, work and family.
