Great film that helps us learn and grow

Congratulations for the well-deserved Emmy Award received by Samuel Habib, Dan Habib and the team for the film “The Ride Ahead: Love Tattoos and Other Disabled Things.” It is a good film.

More importantly, the film provides a unique life view that made me reflect and appreciate. Samuel, to quote his bio, lives with “a rare genetic disorder that caused his cerebral palsy, epilepsy and speech challenges.” The film is an honest and powerful look at love, intimacy and yes, tattoos, as told by Samuel and other fascinating people. I was impressed with Samuel, including his honesty, intellect and wonderful sense of humor.

The film is not in-your-face preaching. Yet, it caused me to think about how much I have to learn about others and how I still need to grow. The most powerful scene involved a person who, while trying to be friendly, talked to Samuel as if he were a child. I saw myself in that woman. I have met Samuel a couple times, and I have struggled with how to interact with him and with others who are different than me.

So, watch this film. Enjoy the life view and learn. Rejoice that our world has such strong people as Samuel and his family who are willing, through well created films, to share their lives and perspectives with us. We have a lot to learn. By learning, we will grow and admire others more.
