New Hampshire State Police arrested an Epsom woman Saturday morning after a multi-town pursuit along Interstate 89.

Dawn Marquis, 55, was charged with felony reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor counts of disobeying an officer and resisting arrest and violations of reckless operation and operating without a valid driver’s license, according to State Police.

According to an affidavit filed in Hillsborough District Court, Marquis has a “violent criminal past” and ties to Florida, where she recently completed a prison sentence. After her arrest, she provided an Epsom mailing address but told police she does not stay there and is usually transient.

Officers with the Lebanon Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. At 8:36 a.m., state troopers learned that the driver of the Cherokee had fled from the officers and that a pursuit had ensued.

The vehicle continued south on I-89. Lebanon officers stopped following the driver, and a Granthan police officer found the vehicle and tried to conduct a traffic stop. When the stop failed again, State Police joined in the pursuit.

Court documents show that Marquis drove at speeds consistently exceeding 100 mph, at times reaching approximately 115 mph.

Police deployed a tire deflation device and punctured one of the car’s tires. The chase ended near Exit 9 to Warner, but the driver refused to leave the car, police said.

Once Marquis was out of the car, police said refused to keep her hands up and slowly walked towards officers to be arrested.

The interstate was temporarily closed as police worked to resolve the situation.

Marquis eventually exited the Jeep with assistance from the State Police Crisis Negotiation Unit, but police said she continued to resist arrest and refused to keep her hands raised as she slowly approached officers to be arrested.

The driver, identified as Marquis, repeatedly refused to get out of the car. She eventually exited the car with the assistance of the State Police Crisis Negotiation Unit but resisted efforts to be taken into custody.

After a K-9 unit was deployed, Marquis was taken into custody. She was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Marquis was arraigned on Monday in the Hillsborough District Court and has been detained. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Sept. 1.
