An independent voice?
Among the many ridiculous claims made in ads for John Sununu is the claim he will end gridlock in the Senate. If I am being honest, gridlock might be a welcome change over what has been going on in Congress over the past two years. Congressional behavior has been a mixture of the abdication of their Constitutional duty and political cowardice, not gridlock. Given the actual reality, gridlock would be an improvement.
The bigger question is, would Sununu be able to at least get the Senate to function as a check on presidential excess? I doubt it. In another ad, Sununu is portrayed as an independent voice for New Hampshire. Yet, this independent voice cannot bring himself to cast blame for this dismal economy where it belongs, on the president. Instead, he blames Congress. While Congress, by refusing to do its job does bear some responsibility, most of the blame rests with the president. The damage to the economy has been entirely self-inflicted.
If Sununu cannot bring himself to blame the man most responsible for the affordability crisis in an ad, why would we expect him to do so from the Senate floor? John Sununu had his time in the Senate and was voted out. It would be folly to give him another chance.
