Opening time capsules from the past is always fun, but it’s more fun if their contents show snippets of how life was lived back in the day.
With that in mind, the organizers of a capsule being buried in Concord are asking students and other community members to submit material “to help create a snapshot of life in Concord today — one that the next generation can rediscover nearly 50 years from now.”
The capsule, to be buried on Fisherville Road on Oct. 23, is part of 250/300, a group of local historians, educators and others marking 2026 as both America’s 250th birthday and the 300th anniversary of Concord’s founding.
The capsule will be opened on July 4, 2075, in preparation for the nation’s 300th birthday the following year.
Organizer Rik Yeames says he’s particularly interested in getting items from students and young adults who will still be around when the capsule is unearthed.
