Regular readers of Granite Geek will know that I am “meh” at best about nuclear power in New England, as this August column says. The problem is that talking about new nuclear plants with new designs that will somehow be cheaper and safer and faster is mostly a distraction from what we really need to do.
We really need to build a ton of solar, wind and batteries and make changes to grid operations and to the way we use energy. But that’s complicated. It’s more fun to geek about a single type of technology!
With that proviso in mind, you can check out New Hampshire Bulletin’s story on a New England-wide gathering discussing nuclear possibilities. Here it is.
It starts out amazed that New Hampshire, usually an outlier and rarely in a good way when it comes to 21st-century energy, is actually cooperating with everybody else, includes a lot of hopeful comments and gets into drawbacks (cost, time to build, waste) later on.
