Property taxes getting out of hand?

To lower your property taxes in New Hampshire, on Nov. 3rd vote No on Question 2.

Question 2 (HB.1300) implies that it is the School Board and the school budget that make your property taxes so high and go up every year. But that’s wrong. Our state, by funding public education least among 50 states, downshifts to local property taxpayers the vast majority of our school costs.

They claim there is not enough money. But there was, and could be again. But Republican legislators, along with their majority in Concord and their Governors for years, have been giving “vouchers” of state money increasingly to wealthier families who already send their kids to private schools … money then not available for public education.

Even worse, those same Republicans have cut state revenue by a minimum of $795 million over the last decade, according to the NH Fiscal Policy Institute. How? They gave tax breaks to large corporations and ended both the Estate Tax and the Interest and Dividends Tax which were paid mostly by the top 10% income of our population.

So please vote No on Question 2. Elect people in November who prioritize public education, fair taxation and local control. We don’t need new taxes, just budget priorities that serve the average family and our public schools. Then our property taxes can go down. HB 1300 is a ruse and distraction. Vote No.
