Educating or electioneering?

The Concord School Board is entrusted by the public to oversee the education of our children, using taxpayers’ money to do so, without political bias. On Oct. 19, the School Board sent an email message via the ParentSquare portal, which is paid for by taxpayers, urging recipients how to vote on a ballot question in the election on Nov. 3. As a result, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office is scrutinizing the Board’s action to determine if it violated state laws on electioneering (see RSA 659:44-a; RSA 652:16-h). Regardless of where one stands on any given ballot question, Concord voters should find it deeply disturbing that the Board took an action sufficient to trigger an investigation by the Attorney General.
