A response to Stephanie Padovano’s letter that appeared in the July 16 Monitor: I found the second sentence of her letter to be a distortion of the reality of the abortion dilemma. I really do not believe that anyone would be “still just fine with the shredding of an almost born baby.”
Abortion tears at the heart, mind, and soul of all concerned. Yes, including that of our society as a whole.
However, the decision to have an abortion should rest solely with the mother, family, and doctor. Society should not ever force – repeat, force – a decision on the mother.
Please support and pray for the mother to be, but do not force her and her doctor’s decision to be made under the threat of legal repercussions. For a moment think about the unintended consequences of our forced moral action taken with Prohibition. It not only did not stop the drinking of alcoholic beverages, it also allowed the growth of organized crime. Roe v. Wade, with all of its faults, along with loving support of the mother to be and prayers, is the best that our human minds have created at the moment.
Finally, again with reference to the letter, I do believe that there are other elements at work in our country’s third-world status.
