The final remaining Rite Aid stores in Concord will shut their doors, with this latest string of closures announced as part of bankruptcy proceedings for the national drugstore chain.
The South Street and North Main Street locations survived earlier waves of closure, including one that shut the location at the Fort Eddy Plaza last year. Another store in Pittsfield had been shut down and the one in Allenstown is due to close in mid-July.
These newest closures aren’t imminent, but the two locations are slated for closure, according to court filings. Hundreds of stores nationwide have been shuttered over the last two years as a result of the bankruptcy.
In March, a Concord optometrist purchased the South End Rite Aid property just off McKee Square.
With CVS and Walgreens locations off of Loudon Road and Hall Street, the Rite Aid closures reduce the number of pharmacy chains in Concord, especially on the west side of the city.
