Concord’s 12-year-old furniture flipping entrepreneur found himself on a national stage Thursday when he appeared on Good Morning America.
Owen Simoes started SquidFlip during the summer of 2017 when he was just 10 years old. He buys furniture from flea markets and refinishes them to be resold.
On Good Morning America, Owen shows hosts Michael Strahan and Sara Haines how he assembles his suitcase tables and silverware hooks. They are joined by Lara Spencer, who hosts HGTV’s Flea Market Flip, which Owen credits as his inspiration to getting into the business of furniture flipping.
“What I love about Owen is he’s a recycler and he sees the beauty in old things,” Spencer said on the segment.
Owen met Spencer last year at the Brimfield Antique Flea Market in Brimfield, Mass.
In May, he told the Monitor, “She was really nice, a little too smiley like she was on camera, and when I looked up, I saw the boom mic over the two of us! They were recording the whole thing.”

Owen runs SquidFlip during the summer and after school at 31 Warren St., Concord, in a basement office space he rents from his father.
This summer, Owen also created his own line of chalked paint – dubbed SquidInk – in several bold colors named for Granite State themes: Mt. Monadnock (black), Great North Woods (green), Mt. Washington (white), Lake Winnipesaukee (blue), Squamscott River (teal), Wallis Sand Beach (yellow) and Salmon Falls (red).
