It was with sadness and disgust that I read a news article regarding the threatening racist email that was recently received by a well-respected New Hampshire state legislator. I have worked with this legislator as a citizen advocate on numerous occasions and found her to be knowledgeable, ethical and responsive to citizen concerns. It is to her credit that she made the decision to wait until after the election was over to speak out, so as not to politicize the incident.

The article cites hateful quotes from the writer and indicated that the repulsive email was written by a member of a white supremacist group. An overwhelming majority of New Hampshire citizens find hateful racial threats to be unacceptable. I personally find it especially unacceptable to threaten a legislator right before an important election and was very glad to hear that Attorney General John Formella is investigating this troubling incident. I hope the attorney general will update the media on this issue so that the media will be able to keep the public informed.
