It’s time to dive into summer reading and the Oceans of Possibilities that the months ahead hold. The Belmont Library is planning for a very fun summer, including exciting events and tons of prizes. You can register today and learn all about Summer Reading by clicking on the “learn more” button on the homepage of our website. Summer Reading began on June 18 and ends on August 6.

The Belmont Elementary School PTO and other generous donors have contributed nearly a dozen museum passes so Belmont families can enjoy free or discounted admissions to local attractions like Castle in the Clouds, Canterbury Shaker Village, and Squam Lake Science Center. For a complete list of where you can go with your library card, visit the library website.

Take a stroll down the (river path) to check out our summer Storywalk, “The Snail and the Whale” by Julia Donaldson, author of other favorites such as “The Gruffalo” and “Room on the Broom.”

The library’s weekly program schedule includes a storytime Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. We’ll be showing ocean themed movies every Monday in the children’s room so you can cool off and enjoy a snack. Finally, wrap up your week with STEM the Tide, our STEAM based program that will explore ocean topics ranging from Trash Island, to ocean animal survival mechanisms.

The Children’s Literacy Foundation Summer Readers Book Giveaway is happening  July 18 at 11 a.m. We’ll meet the presenter at the Tioga Pavilion. Each child through sixth grade will receive two free books to keep.

On July 22, join us in the Tioga Pavilion for a “Beach” Party and outdoor movie! We’ll be showing “Luca” around dusk. The Belmont Recreation Department will supply popcorn, but bring your own chairs.

Eventually summer must come to an end, and we will be celebrating by hosting Wildlife Encounters in the Tioga Pavilion, on August 6 at 11 a.m. We will get up close and personal with seven exciting animals, possibly including alligators, giant toads, or a tortoise!
