Leah Willingham’s story on New Hampshire’s search for medical supplies (Monitor front page, May 4) is a sobering look at how much we, as a tiny state, are on our own. There would barely be a mask or gown to be found here if not for those from the private sector, like Dean Kamen, fronting the money and using their Asian business ties.
Has Gov. Chris Sununu inquired about joining the newly formed medical buying group of Northeastern states? It seems like a good idea.
Meanwhile, our president, once he could no longer ignore the peril Americans faced, told governors to not look for federal help or leadership. This created the madness of states bidding against each other, suppliers jacking up prices, fraud becoming rampant and states having to hide what supplies they had for fear of federal confiscation.
Meanwhile, our president stokes civil unrest, pushes for the unsafe reopening of the economy, eschews responsibility but craves approval holding daily pity parties for himself while his minions congratulate him and concoct conspiracies to back up what comes out of his fevered imagination.
Is this any way to fight a pandemic?
