It is aggravating that Tom Congoran would write the letter he did (Monitor, Jan. 14) when he is completely uneducated in our fire departments ISO ratings, which have not changed in over 30 years.
He paints a picture that is incredibly misleading and undeniably causing confusion.
In Hopkinton, if your property is in close proximity to a fire hydrant, the ISO rating is a 5. Everywhere else in town is a 9. This has not changed and would not change unless the town installed hundreds of additional hydrants.
I suggest folks become better informed by researching ISO ratings for fire departments and how they are derived. For additional information, our fire chief has records of our ratings and the explanations to support them.
I am ashamed to see someone who has so much public support from this community not do his due diligence to get the facts, but instead just publish a letter in the Monitor.
