The John Stark boys’ track and field team has established itself over the past couple of seasons as especially strong in the field events. The Generals gave a demonstration on Saturday at the NHIAA Division II indoor track and field championship.

Girls’ basketball: Coe-Brown Bears fall to Lebanon in tough loss, 49-40

NORTHWOOD – Injuries and a season-long string of illnessess continue to hamper the Coe-Brown girls’ basketball team, which has struggled to settle on a consistent rotation of players. The Bears lost their most recent game to Lebanon, 49-40, on Tuesday night, them to 6-5 on the season.

Even with snow coming, Black Ice Pond Hockey Championship slated for outdoors after two years inside

Spanning three days, six ice rinks, and eight divisions, the 14th annual 1883 Black Ice Pond Hockey Championship and Winter Festival will bring together hockey players from around the state this weekend for several days of competition and celebration. Even with snow in the forecast on Thursday and Sunday, Chris Brown, founder of the 1883 Black Ice Hockey Association, says the games will go on.

For the past two years, the week leading up to the Black Ice Pond Hockey Championships at White Park in Concord was an exercise in forecasting-watching and hand-wringing. Each year, organizers determined the weather just wouldn’t hold up and they pushed the annual event indoors.
Wrestling: Depth, toughness in consolation brackets, lifts Concord to 4th at Capital City Classic

Tournament wrestling doesn’t come down entirely to finalists. The Concord High School wrestling team didn’t have a single finalist on its home mats at Saturday’s annual Capital City Classic, but the Crimson Tide gutted out victories and pins through the consolation brackets, placing six wrestlers and finishing fourth out of 31 teams.

New Hampshire isn’t known as a football powerhouse, but every once in a while, a star is discovered and becomes a highly coveted recruit. That’s the case of Phillips Exeter Academy’s Isaiah Reese, a Gilford native, who just inked a deal to play for the University of Virginia in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Alpine skiing: Hopkinton wins 3rd consecutive Capital Cup

For the past two years, the Capital Cup has resided at the Everyday Cafe in Contoocook. After Wednesday evening’s victory, the Hopkinton Alpine ski team brought it back yet again. Senior Merrick Chapin topped the boys’ standings, and both the Hopkinton boys’ and girls’ teams won their respective events as the Hawks claimed their third consecutive Capital Cup on Wednesday at Proctor Academy.
