Looking for a new skateboard? A new beer? Maybe a new buddy? Feathered Friend Brewery has you covered.
On Thursday, from 2 to 8 p.m., the newly formed Concord Skate Park Association is holding an art show and auction to raise money for a new skate park. Boards, Brushes and Brews will feature 25 skateboards each painted by a local artist. The boards will be up for sale via silent auction.
“All proceeds are going to go for the Concord Skate Park Association, with the idea to have all the money donated to the building of a new and modern concrete skate park in Concord, for the benefit of the residents of Concord and beyond,” said Ted Rice, president of CSP.
Why all this effort for a new park? While the current park has its charm, the concrete collage of ramps and rails outside Everett Arena is more than 20 years old. Concord skaters have chipped in to make it a clean, safe and family-friendly park and recently gave it a new paint job. But the want for an upgrade remains to help draw in new skaters and grow the popularity of the sport in Concord.
Those looking to attend the event can sign up for one of the four, hour-and-a-half-long time slots. This can be done via concordskatepark.com or by scanning the QR code on one of the event fliers. If you can’t make it in person but still want to bid, the boards will be up for auction online for a month following the event.
But for those who choose to attend in person, there will be more than just boards available. CSP merchandise with artwork from local artists will also be up for sale with proceeds helping fund the new skate park. And for any beer lovers, Feathered Friend will be debuting a new brew to help the cause. Rice called it a sour ale but bit his tongue before releasing any more details on the name or taste of the beer. So, if you want any more info on the ale you’ll need to attend in person. Rice added that the event is open to all ages despite the location and that kids and young skaters are more than welcome.
CSP’s quest for a new park has gained a swell of support from local businesses. Along with Feathered Friend, Lucky’s Barber Shop chipped in and purchased the blank boards for the artists to paint. The longtime Concord business bought the boards from another Granite State seller, Peace Coast Skateboards. Peace Coast is a rider-owned and operated business that has crafted boards since 2009.
