Dunbarton

London Mills, a 17-year-old Dunbarton resident and Bow High School senior has made it to the finals of the prestigious Genée International Ballet Competiton held in Toronto, Canada. London has been studying ballet since the age of three and along with attending public school full-time at Bow High School, she travels to Boston six days a week to train at a pre-professional ballet level with Koltun Ballet Boston. Her training with Alexandra Koltun and Alex Lapshin, two former principle dancers with the Kirov and Bolshoi Ballet, propelled her to a spot in the finals of the Genée. The Genée International Ballet Competition is by invitation only to those dancers ages 15 to 19 who have studied the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus and achieved a mark of distinction on their Advanced 2 examination. London was one of six Americans to be chosen for the competition and is now one of two (the only girl) from America that will continue to the finals. The judging panel for this year’s Genée is Boston Ballet’s Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen, Monica Mason, former director of the Royal Ballet School, Magdalena Popa, Principal Artistic Coach of the National Ballet of Canada and Karen Kain, Artistic Director of the National Ballet of Canada.
