The N.H. Department of Corrections and State Police are investigating the death of a resident of New Hampshire State Prison who suffered a fatal medical emergency on Wednesday afternoon

Other residents in the prison notified staff that Beau Mitchell was in crisis, who administered emergency aide until an ambulance arrived. Mitchell died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Tina Thurber, a spokesperson for the prison, said the emergency was not COVID-19 related and investigators do not believe there was foul play involved.

Mitchell, 41, had been serving a maximum sentence of 37 years for two counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault. He had been in prison for about 15 years when he died.
