Letter: Support HB 177 & NH state parks

My husband and I both grew up in New Hampshire and have owned property on Forest Lake since 1983. We love spending time there with family and friends. I started visiting the lake when I was a young girl, staying at my grandparents camp. We never dreamed that a huge waste systems corporation would be able to find a large landowner willing to sell to them in a small, rural town with no zoning, but they did.

Thankfully the citizens of Dalton voted for Emergency Temporary Zoning last year, and there has been a large grassroots effort to protect both Dalton and the state park from a devastating and irresponsible landfill development. There is also widespread opposition from neighboring towns to this development so close to a lake, state park and the Ammonoosuc River. We were relieved when HB 177 passed in the NH House, with bipartisan support. This bill would create a two mile setback to protect all NH state parks from an abutting landfill development. We need to get HB 177 passed and signed into law by Gov. Sununu to protect all NH state parks.
