Letter: Get vaccinated

The anti-science ignorance of some people has reached new heights, by which I mean new lows. Many CPAC conference attendees cheered that vaccination rates have missed the target which could speed us towards herd immunity. I have little doubt that many of those cheering also do not believe in wearing masks. Vaccination is the most effective way to stop the spread of COVID-19. Masks and social distancing are likely the next most effective way, but that greatly disrupts normal social contact.

Without either of those things, COVID spreads. There is direct proof of this. Places with the lowest vaccination rates are having the worst surges of COVID and the most hospitalizations per capita. The coronavirus doesn’t know what political party you belong to. It doesn’t know or care whether you are conservative, liberal or moderate. In addition, when more people get the virus there is a greater chance the virus will mutate into new variants. Some future variants may not respond to the vaccine. So it is not just your life you are putting at risk by not getting vaccinated. You are risking the lives of family, friends and others. Do the right thing, get the vaccine.
