Letter: Pandemic thriving, truth not

The Monitor reported that Republican Rep. Michael Sylvia stated that a Democratic bill “further perpetuates a pandemic that has come to an end.” (Monitor, 1/7). This isn’t even Orwellian doublespeak because it doesn’t pretend to hide a mis-truth with confusing language. It is more like Superman’s Bizarro World where everything is the opposite of what it should be.

In the Bizarro World comics, Bizzaro World is a cube, not a globe, and the sun is blue, not red. Can Rep. Sylvia even pretend to believe that the pandemic is over? On the same Monitor page on which his quote appeared there is an article about COVID patients filling hospitals and people being turned away from medical care because of this. Only in a fantasy land where people ignore easily verifiable facts is the pandemic over. Science deniers now know no limits. These science deniers simply make up everything as they go along. Whatever outcome they seek either becomes a fact in their minds or they totally ignore facts. Ignorance may seem to be bliss, but it won’t end a pandemic.
