Letter: Lights for Keach Park

Published: 01-05-2023 7:00 AM

Thanks for the recent (Dec. 28) article about Change for Concord leaders advocating for lights at the Keach Park soccer field. As someone who lives in Concord Heights, one of the most vibrant and diverse neighborhoods in Concord, I would urge the city to provide these lights which were initially budgeted for 2018.

Soccer is by far the world’s most popular sport and is much more financially accessible to the average person than golf. The U.S. women’s soccer team has been remarkably successful in recent years, the World Cup has been enjoyed by millions, and the death of soccer great Pele has just reminded us of the long, rich history of this sport. Why should our young neighbors, many from refugee and New American families, have to wait until their children are playing the sport in 2031 to have lights for the Keach Park soccer field? Let’s do it!
