Boys’ Basketball

Monadnock 51, Kearsarge 50

Key players: Monadnock – Evan Dumaine (18 points), Ben Dean (14 points); Kearsarge – Parker Goin (10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals), Ajay Tremblay (10 points, 4 rebounds), Josh Holderman (8 points, 3 steals), Joe Yanzo (6 points, 10 rebounds), Hunter and Sean Stanchfield (great defense, combined for 6 steals)

Highlights: Monadnock took a six-point lead late in the game, but Yanzo made two free throws, followed by an Austin Needham clutch 3-pointer to cut the lead to one point with under a minute to play. Hunter Stanchfield stole the ball with 30 seconds left and raced in for a lay up to take the lead, 50-49. With 3 seconds left, Monadnock rebounded a missed free throw and got a put back for the game-winning points.

Coach’s quote: “Our boys played their hearts out, especially down the stretch being down six points and finding a way to take a lead with under 30 seconds to play. The ending was unfortunate, but these guys are playing harder every game and making improvements. Lots to build on and a special shout out to Hunter Stanchfield who made a huge steal and lay up in the final minute for us.” – Kearsarge’s Nate Camp

Records: Monadnock 2-5; Kearsarge 1-5
