Letter: Losing position

Published: 01-08-2023 7:00 AM

In the recent midterms and in August of this year, six states (CA, MT, KY, MI, VT, KS) had abortion rights on the ballot as referendums. Three of these states, Montana, Kentucky and Kansas are about as blood red as you can get. Yet in each of these states, voters either voted to expand abortion rights, or prevent the state from further curtailing them. So why, as per today’s Monitor (1/5), are there nine bills set to be introduced in the NH House that would seek to restrict abortion?

Can’t any of these so-called ‘representatives’ read the room and figure out that curtailing people’s rights and denying them basic healthcare is not a winning position? I would think that after the drubbing Republicans got nationwide, largely over the overturning Roe, that they would be smart enough to move on from an unpopular position. I guess some of them aren’t.
