Letter: The kindness of a stranger

Published: 01-26-2023 7:00 AM

Last Sunday, I was in line at the Fort Eddy Market Basket. I realized I could save money if I purchased my items elsewhere, so I put back five. I just wanted to get home, and back to bed. I could barely stand, I’ve been very ill with COVID since Januar 1.

I’m a young 70, but look like a scarecrow, it’s taken a lot out of me. I wore a brown beret, a mask, and just tried to hide, hunched over my cart, hoping I’d be invisible. Suddenly a male customer, around 35 to 40, handed me wrapped flowers, and said, “These are for you.” I was so shocked, I just said, “Oh, thank you.” In reality, I was trying not to cry, feeling both gratitude and embarrassment. I have never been so touched! If you see this, young man, I want you to know you made my day. You really caught me off-guard. I promise, I will pay it forward. May God bless you.
