Boys’ Basketball

Kearsarge 48, Newport 46

Key players: Kearsarge – Josh Holderman (16 pints, 7 rebounds, 5 assists), Ajay Tremblay (14 points, 4 rebounds), Parker Goin (3 points, 10 rebounds), Joe Yanzo (8 points, 4 rebounds), Austin Needham (3 points), Drew Huff (3 points), Sean Stanchfield (defense), Hunter Stanchfield (defense), Damon Dawson (defense); Newport – Aaron Fellows (17 points)

Highlights: Tremblay scored a bucket off a well-executed sideline in-bounds play with 25 seconds left in the game to lift the Cougars to another victory on Saturday after snapping their eight-game losing streak on Friday night. The Stanchfield brothers and Dawson held Newport All-State guard Kayden Laclair to just five points.

Coach’s quote: “Tonight was about defense and making Newport work for every basket. They’ve had a nice season thus far and have been scoring a lot of points. I told our guys we need to hold them in the 40s tonight to be successful. That was a tremendous job especially by Sean, Hunter and Damon on back-to-back nights getting the assignment to lock down another talented guard. Holderman and Tremblay were once again outstanding. Proud of Ajay for getting the winning basket.” – Kearsarge’s Nate Camp

Records: Kearsarge 3-9; Newport 4-7
