Letter: Response to ‘racial justice church’

Lest my words be misconstrued, my intended message for the Concord Monitor (“Striving for inclusion,” 6/4) was that justice should be available and applied equally to all. Recently there have been too many examples of perpetrators committing crimes and escaping meaningful consequences in the United States. Because of selectively used justice, criminals are incentivized to commit more and higher acuity crimes because they no longer fear retribution. This has resulted in decreased police morale and recruitment.

Most police departments in major cities have significant percentages of people of color (POC). I wonder if racial justice committees believe POC police officers mistreat POC? Growing numbers of injured victims and grieving families are testifying before Congress with little effect. Stores must put their goods behind barriers and store security personnel get prosecuted when trying to stop thieves. Still, the hundreds of shootings every weekend in Chicago go unanswered. These trends cause me to believe we need more application of justice, not selectively applied racial justice.
