Letter: Mental health access for seniors

Published: 01-25-2024 7:00 AM

It is with deep gratitude to our entire Congressional delegation, particularly Rep. Kuster and Sen. Hassan, who have ensured seniors and others on Medicare access to many more mental health services and providers. This is hard to believe but it took a literal act of Congress to include licensed mental health counselors and licensed marriage and family therapists as providers of mental health services for Medicare.

For over 12 years Rep. Kuster, who co-sponsored the bill in the House, has been trying to get seniors mental health services. The whole New Hampshire delegation backed this bill. As of January 1, 2024, these additional providers are now able to see Medicare recipients. If you are on Medicare and in need of services, please thank your Congress person and senator and call a provider to schedule an appointment.
