Letter: The need for informed citizenry

I am grateful to the citizens who have taken the trouble to inform themselves as to what is currently going on in the Legislature and further to pass the information on to the rest of us voters via Letters to the Editors. Two issues of particular concern are, first, the three House bills intended to funnel more of our tax dollars into private, unaccountable, charter schools. The second is the continuing efforts to meddle in school curricula to appease certain individual points of view of legislators.
Public non-academic agencies and schools are often exhorted to, “do more with less,” but that sensibility apparently does not apply when it comes to charter schools. Perhaps if more of us voters informed ourselves and got involved, the Legislature would spend more energy grappling with serious legislative issues and less with fine tuning restrictions on agencies forever trying to do more with less.
