Letter: Fanciful Biden hit job

Millie LaFontaine’s My Turn (Monitor, 2/17) justifiably defends the president’s capacity to lead the nation following the release of Special Counsel Hur’s classified documents case report. I wholeheartedly agree with her findings but wish to point out what appears to be the universal misreading of the Special Counsels key statement: “Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

Whether consciously attempting to avoid prosecution or reacting emotionally to questions about the death of his son, it is a representation of his behavior rather than a professional medical conclusion of diminished faculties so joyfully being reported on by his detractors. In fact, the ability of an individual to present themselves during an inquisition in a way which serves their best interest is a sign of wisdom and experience. Something this exonerated president is apparently fully capable of.
