Letter: MVSD School Board elections

I’m Howard Pearl, Jr., or Charlie as many know me. I’m a Loudon native and candidate for the Merrimack Valley School Board. My daughter attends kindergarten at LES, and I want to advocate for her and other local children. My extensive technology background could be a plus in reviewing resources and opportunities in this area. But I want to also be an advocate for all citizens, including those dealing with record-high property taxes, most of which go to schools and school personnel. We now spend around $20,000 per student a year, meaning a quarter-million-dollar investment in each MVHS grad! Such investments demand accountability and assessments.

Our children are our future, and while we need to be mindful of what and how we teach them, we need not place limits on what they learn. We all should help teach youngsters to discern right from wrong, truth from lies, and wisdom from foolishness. Our school board has a responsibility to not only to seek a high quality of education for our children but to also ensure our tax dollars are being used efficiently and appropriately. As a member of the board, I will focus on putting our children’s needs first, but want to better ensure we are doing so in a more fiscally responsible manner. I ask for your vote on March 8.

Howard Pearl Jr.
